Gerd Wolfgang Sievers, CEO
Gerd Wolfgang Sievers was born in Münster in 1968, to an Austrian mother and a German father. He grew up in Münster, Unna, Soest, Freiburg and Vienna. After graduating from high school, he served in the army and then studied journalism in Vienna. He then did various internships with different top chefs (including Alois Köpf, 2-star restaurant „de France“ in Wiesbaden). He later completed his apprenticeship as a chef in Austria. In the 1990s, Gerd was managing director of Octopus Marketingberatung GmbH, whose main business was PR and the organization of corporate events.
In 2002, he switched to journalism fulltime and became editor of various trade magazines (including Falstaff, Kochen & Küche, Genussmagazin, ÖGZ). He received the Austrian Journalism Award and then began his career as a non-fiction author. To date, he has authored 38 books and has received several international awards. He is a three times World Best Culinary Travel Guide winner, for Venice, Trieste, and Naples, and six times award winner at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
In 2007, his opus magnum „Genussland Österreich,“ for which he won one of his World Cookbook Awards in London, was voted the world´s best culinary non-fiction book, whereupon ORF approached him with a request to film this book for television. The resulting three-part „Genussland Österreich“ was such a success that it gave rise to the format of the same name, which was produced by Sievers’ own agency (the Phönix Kulturmanagement GmbH Agency) and broadcast on ORF, ORF III, BR 3 and the former Bayern-Alpha television station. In total, almost 50 films were made for this format. The success of “Genussland Österreich” was based primarily on the fact that the focus was not on pure culinary delights, but on subtle portraits of people and landscapes.
In 2022, the headquarters of his film production company was moved from Vienna to Bratislava, the current “SIEVERS Art & Media SRO,” engaged in the production of films and art management, while the Austrian production company, „Agency Phoenix, was transformed into a service agency. At present Gerd Wolfgang Sievers is mainly active as General Manager of „SIEVERS Art & Media SRO“ in the art and film business.
